Google+ Cave Food Kitchen: 3 Foods that could sabotage Ketosis

3 Foods that could sabotage Ketosis

Most people that follow a Keto diet are pretty well aware of the nutrients in the foods they eat, but sometimes it's the little stuff that you might overlook, like i did in the beginning ;-)
In this post i'd like to highlight 3 food items that are pretty common, but could potentially endanger your goals whilst following the keto diet.

Carrots
They are a staple in our household, meaning we always have a batch in the fridge to be used for stir-fries or steaming.
A medium carrot contains about 6 grams of carbs, and personally, i could have about 3 in one sitting. Bang, 18 grams of carbs that will kick you outside your limits easily. Avoid like the plague.

Nut Butters
MyProtein Almond ButterLOVE this stuff. Especially almond butter stole my heart and kicked peanut butter into the land of vague memories. Problem; it's easily to over-eat and a tablespoon of the stuff is about 3-4 grams of carbs. Current favorite:

Also, be aware of regular almonds; a handful (12) will serve you 3 grams of carbs.

Tomatoes
I still eat them often, and even though they are on the allowed list, if you are really looking to cut carbs, i'd avoid them as well. A medium tomato will get you about 3-4 grams of carbs.
No, they won't kill you, but might kill ketosis ;-)
Edit: Nutrition info.
