Google+ Cave Food Kitchen: Pesticides in produce, 2012

Pesticides in produce, 2012

For as far as my wallet allows, I try to buy as much organic as possible. But as in many countries, buying organic (biologisch) in The Netherlands is quite expensive. To my joy, my main supermarket (Lidl) is selling more and more organic products as well, which makes it all a bit more affordable.
At the same time, we use a fruit & vegetable subscription, where on a weekly basis I pick up a bag of organic vegetables & fruit for € 8,75. But, do you really need to buy everything organic?
The main reason for buying organic, is that the foods (fruits & vegetables) aren't treated with pesticides, which means you also won't get these pesticides in your system.

Every year, 2 lists are published, naming the "The Dirty Dozen" and the "Clean 15", summarizing the top 12 fruits and vegetables treated the most with pesticides, and the top 15 lowest in pesticides.
This also gives you a bit of a guideline which produce to buy organic, and which produce you don't necessarily need to buy organic (source: www.ewg.org)
A handy guide can be downloaded here.
