About

Food

I'm a CrossFit/health-nut in my 30's and live in Amsterdam. At the end of 2011, I started blogging about my change to the Paleo diet. Yes, I'm one of those people.

Once I switched to paleo, my energy levels changed, no more low blood sugar or feeling hungry. I noticed my body composition changing. Also, I started "cooking" again, meaning trying new recipes, different foods and having fun while doing it.

In Jan/Feb of 2013, I completed a Whole30, a 30 day "program" where you eat very strict paleo and eat foods in their most purest form. This was quite the eye-opener, it really puts the spotlight on your relationship with food.
After realizing that food & nutrition really has my interest and passion, I am now also a certified nutritionist & weight loss consultant.

Currently following a course on Child Nutrition through Stanford University.

Crossfit

In February 2012, I joined Mobilis Crossfit and was hooked immediately. Currently training 5-6 days a week, and within a short period of time, I noticed my body & strength changing dramatically. It's awesome.
In April 2013, I passed for my L1 Crossfit Trainer Course.
As of October 2013, I'm also a contributor to www.boxrox.com.

  1. Sabine, we live in the US and are very much into Paleo/Crossfit and really appreciate your blog - we will be visiting relatives in Amstelveen for a week or so beginning of June. My wife (competitive crossfitter) and I (not so competitive) want to workout at local crossfit gyms and would appreciate any advice on restaurants, etc. We don't care if we to pay to work-out. My wife lived in Amsterdam for several years, we visit allot so transition to a Dutch gym will likely not present any problems.

    Regards!

  2. Hi Norm, so nice to hear from you! I go to Mobilis CrossFit, they don't have individual classes on the website, but i'm sure they are more than happy to accommodate you. You can contact Dave, i'm sure he can work something out. The other gym is a bit further out: www.reebokcrossfit020.nl. I have worked out there as well, the facility is bigger than Mobilis and lots of expats.
At the moment there are no "paleo" restaurants in Amsterdam, but definitely plenty that work with organic ingredients: http://www.iens.nl/restaurant/amsterdam/biologisch
Usually if you mention "no gluten" they can work something out :-)

  3. Hi Sabine, not sure if you’re still interested in protein bars, but I just posted about how a few low carb bars compare to Quest. If you’re interested: http://caloriesproper.com/?p=2117 “Protein bar round-up, take II. The meaning of ingredients, just the facts.”
    Cheers,

    1. Hi Bill, thanks for that! Looks like Quest comes out pretty good each time, too bad i don't really like the taste of them. Love Oh Yeah! bars though, but should not splurge to often. What do you think about Cabrite bars?
